You may remember from my post about surviving an elimination diet that one of my tips was to know your quick eats. It’s great to have an arsenal of healthy snacks for you or your family regardless if elimination is even on your mind. Quick eats are great for road trips, late night outings, or even between meals at work/school.
When I first started elimination I spent hours upon hours in grocery stores reading the packaging labels. Trying to find packaged food that was healthy and that I could actually eat proved to be a difficult challenge. In order to save you some of the label induced headaches I experienced I wanted to host a snack giveaway! This giveaway contains all my favorite snacks I’ve discovered along the way. Most of these snacks have three ingredients or less (which is a rule I live by when it comes to packaged products). I want to talk about each product, ways I use them, and to give you links to buy if it ends up not being your lucky day with the giveaway. (Disclosure: some links may be affiliate links, by purchasing through these links you help to keep OCD Kitchen up and running, but trust me I wouldn’t recommend a product I didn’t love myself!)
This giveaway sings to the tune of about $35. If you don’t want to read about each product and you’re just here for the giveaway this is your cue to scroll to the bottom and enter! Good luck!
Apple-2-The-Core from Peeled Snacks
I stumbled upon these snack by pure accident. I hadn’t packed enough lunch and this was quite literally the only thing I could eat that we stocked in our company break room. I was skeptical, I had tried apple chips before and I hadn’t really enjoyed them. That day I was desperate. I opened the packaged and was immediately intrigued. These weren’t crunchy like chips they were soft and chewy. I thought they tasted like little apple marshmallows. Who doesn’t love marshmallows? I was hooked. I’ve been eating these yummy snacks ever since! I do have a hard time finding this brand at this time. I’ve found this product at Target, and Whole Foods. If you can’t find them near you, you can always buy online! I definitely encourage you to explore this brand they have a lot of great snacks that are really tasty and good for you.
Dang Toasted Coconut Chips from Dang, That’s Good
Think you don’t like coconut? I dare you to not like these toasted coconut chips. The first time I tried these chips I knew they would be a staple for me. For those of you saying these are easy to make at home. I would agree with you. However! I’ve yet to have a homemade batch taste as magical as the ones from Dang, That’s Good. I’m convinced there’s gotta be something naughty up with these chips. Just like with the dried apples from Peeled Snacks I do have a hard time finding this brand as well. I tend to find them at Harris Teeter and Whole Foods. I even see them lurking in the Home Goods food section from time to time. If you buy this don’t kid yourself. Go for the resealable family size. It’s worth it.
Ingredients: Coconut, Cane Sugar, Salt
Fruit Bars from Trader Joe’s
I included two of my favorite flavors of these fruit bars. Apple + Strawberry and Apple + Mango. They also carry a couple other flavors to try if you have a location near you. Unfortunately I don’t believe you can purchase products from Trader Joe’s online. All the more reason for you to enter the giveaway! These are simple straight forward two ingredient bars that are easy to throw in your purse or have for breakfast! Better yet they only cost me .99 cents each. Dried fruit does tend to be high in sugar because of the natural sugar in the fruit. I don’t suggest eating these daily but it’s always nice to have something purse friendly around.
Ingredients: Apple + Strawberry (Apple, Strawberry), Apple + Mango (Apple, Mango)
Sunflower Seeds from David’s
I’ll confess I’ve loved sunflower seeds since I was a child. On long car rides that was my families snack of choice. It kept your mouth busy without feeling like you ate five bags of Cheetos in an eight hour ride. My dad loads his cheeks up with them and spits the shells into a cup while my mother and I are a little more conservative and usually have to grab the shells with our fingers and place them gingerly out the window. They swear by the Frito Lay brand but I’ve always been partial to David’s. I think it has just the right salt level.
Ingredients: Sunflower Seeds, Salt
Dark Chocolate Chips from Enjoy Life
These chocolate chips are a God send. Many people know that most chocolate contains dairy. But did you know it usually contains soy as well? These chocolate chips are dairy, nut, and soy free. Sometimes I throw them into granola bars, other times I’ll melt them down into a chocolate sauce, but usually I’m just popping them by the handful for a midnight snack. I’m partial to dark chocolate but they also make a milk chocolate version. These little chips will cost you a pretty penny but for the chocolate lovers with food allergies/intolerance run don’t walk to your local grocery store and grab these ASAP! I find these in different places like Earth Fare, Publix, and Harris Teeter. Sometimes they are in the baking isle. Other times they sit in the gluten free/speciality section of the store. You may need to ask an associate if their store carries them.
Ingredients: Unsweetened Chocolate, Cane Sugar
Sea Salt Seaweed Chips from gimMe
We’re a sushi loving household and we never shy away from that briny flavor that seaweed provides. When I first purchased these my boyfriend couldn’t get enough. I have to literally sneak when I eat these so he doesn’t ask for some. They have a nice papery crunch with a bit of the salty briny flavor. We love them! When I need a quick meal I take a plate of these guys top with some rice and a sliced avocado (see a picture from Instagram). Perfection! They have a lot of other flavors like teriyaki and wasabi which I hope to try someday. For now I’ll stick to my sea salt and be happy!
Ingredients: Organic Seaweed, Organic Sunflower Oil, Salt
Freeze Dried Fruit from Target’s Simply Balanced
Before this time in my life I had never experienced freeze dried fruit outside of the cardboard flavored strawberries you get in certain cereals. This is where being open to new foods comes in handy. I now eat these freeze dried fruits anyway I can think of. Crumbled over a peanut butter topped rice cake, in granola, or straight out of the bag to name a few. I think they would also be a great add to cereals, yogurt, or even to flavor milk if you blend them into a powder for the little ones. They are like a super concentrated blast of fruit flavor. Best thing about freeze dried fruit is that’s usually all it is. Fruit! I’ve included my two favorite types in the giveaway, mango and strawberry!
Ingredients: Mango (Mango), Strawberry (Strawberry)
Dried Blueberries from Stoneridge Orchards
I wanted to add a new and exciting berry to my granola bars (check out my recipe!) I felt like dried blueberries could really add some excitement to the party. Little did I know how much I would love munching on these on their own. I wanted to include these in the giveaway because they were something new and exciting I hadn’t ever considered before. Usually my dried fruit stuck at cranberries and raisins. These blueberries are sweet and just adorable in their size. As a snack I’ll make a quick trail mix (including most of the items I’m giving away here). I definitely recommend them! I can’t seem to find a good link to purchase these online but I find them at my local Harris Teeter.
